The Journey, Part 2

From July 15, 2021

I know it’s been a while since my first post, but as you all know, life happens. Of course, the day after I posted “The Journey,” so much kept popping up in my life regarding journeys! And since THE Journey is neverending, we have a part two.

The day after I published The Journey, a friend had shared an article on journeys using Numbers 33. The ESV version uses the phrase “set out,” but another version uses the term “journeyed.” For example, vs. 5: “So the people of Israel journeyed from Rameses and camped at Succoth.” Verse after verse, Numbers 33 speaks of how God had His people on the move to journey to the Promised Land.

And that SAME DAY, Mike flipped our verse-of-the-day calendar, and Psalm 78:52 came up: “Then he led out his people like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.” Amazing! This verse references back to the Exodus, which is what Numbers 33 is all about! I think God is trying to tell us something…..

So we journey on in this life that God has planned for us. We don’t know all the twists and turns that I spoke briefly of in the original post, but I’m thinking not all our roads will be smooth sailing interstates. I’m sure we will have plenty of twisting and winding backroads, and even some big hills, along the way. But do you know what? Those are the roads with the prettiest views. Sometimes we don’t always see them right away, but in hindsight, we have 20/20 vision!

Faith requires us to pick up our crosses and abandon the easy for the difficult. Right now, we are in a place of waiting: waiting to be fully funded, waiting for our first assignment, waiting to know what we should do tomorrow… Waiting can be difficult. I came across this verse, today. It seems so fitting for where we are in our journey: “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end– it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3

As we wait for God’s appointed time (for His time is not ours!), we hope to have joy in the journey. Sometimes, joy is right in front of us and easy to see; sometimes, we have to look hard for it. Sometimes, we need to be intentional to find positives and joy. How have you had joy in your journey? Look back and ponder all the wonderful things God has done for you. Be grateful and find the joy.

And don’t be surprised if somewhere down the road, there is a “The Journey, Part 3” post! Because the journey is neverending.
